How we write every guide.

Official sources, a date on every fact, a named editor: the method behind every page of hellosafe.co.uk.

No paid placement

No airline, tour operator or visa service pays for a place in our guides.

Official sources only

GOV.UK, embassies and immigration services; never a forum or another guide.

Dated and updated

Every table says when it was checked, and changes when a rule changes.

How a guide is built

From the official source to a dated answer.

Every guide on hellosafe.co.uk is written from official sources: GOV.UK and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, and the embassies and immigration services of each destination. Each fact is checked on the date shown under its table, and the page is updated when a rule changes. No airline, tour operator or visa service pays for a place in our guides.

  1. 1

    One question

Each guide answers one question a traveller from the UK asks, such as “Do I need a visa for Egypt?”.

  2. 2

    The official source

We read the rule where it is published: the destination's immigration service, its embassy, GOV.UK.

  3. 3

    A dated answer

We write the answer in plain English, with the source and the date under every table.

  4. 4

    Checked again

We re-check every guide on a regular cycle, and at once when an authority announces a change.

Where our facts come from

The sources we rely on.

01

Entry rules and visas

The destination's immigration service or embassy, and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office's travel advice on GOV.UK.

02

Driving and pets

GOV.UK, the Post Office for the international driving permit, each country's transport authority, and the Animal and Plant Health Agency for pets.

03

Airlines and travel

Each airline's own page for cabin bags, and each operator's own page for ferries and trains.

Our guides explain the rules as the official sources publish them; they do not replace them. Before you travel, check what applies to you with the authority concerned.
