Barbados visa for UK citizens: online immigration form and entry rules
Is there a Barbados visa for British passport holders?
No. A full British citizen passport gets you into Barbados for a holiday without a Barbados visa, but three things are checked instead: the online immigration and customs form, filled in before you land, a passport valid for your whole stay, and an onward or return ticket.
Both governments say the same. The GOV.UK entry requirements for Barbados (updated 23 January 2026 and still current on 3 November 2026) state that you do not need a visa to visit. The Barbados Ministry of Foreign Affairs links two visa lists, the latest revised on 9 May 2025, and both mark the United Kingdom as "No Visa required" for foreign nationals entering Barbados.
GOV.UK writes its advice for people travelling on a full British citizen passport from the UK. On another British passport, or for a stay that is not a holiday, ask the Barbados High Commission in London (020 7299 7150, london@foreign.gov.bb) before you book. Our entry requirements for British passport holders list the other destinations.
Every guide on hellosafe.co.uk is written from official sources: GOV.UK and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, and the embassies and immigration services of each destination. Each fact is checked on the date shown under its table, and the page is updated when a rule changes. No airline, tour operator or visa service pays for a place in our guides.
Learn moreHow do you complete the Barbados immigration and customs form?
You fill it in online at the official address, travelform.gov.bb, no earlier than 72 hours before you land: the Barbados Immigration Department says the online immigration and customs form becomes available 72 hours prior to your arrival. GOV.UK says all travellers must complete it before arriving.
- Wait for the 72-hour window
On a Saturday arrival, the form opens on Wednesday at the same hour. Set a reminder: a week ahead is too early. - Use an email address you can open abroad
Visit Barbados, the island's tourism authority, says a valid email address is required, because the receipts are emailed to you when you submit. - Keep both receipts
The Immigration Department speaks of an Immigration receipt and a Customs receipt. Save them to your mobile or print them. - Show them when you land
You present the receipts to Immigration and to Customs on arrival. A printed copy saves you if your phone battery runs flat on the flight.
Watch the address. Some private websites offer to submit the form for you and charge for it, while GOV.UK and the Immigration Department, which both send travellers to travelform.gov.bb, mention no fee at all. If a site asks for card details, you are not on the government form.
Two details we could not confirm at the source: whether each member of a family needs a separate form, and the exact questions it asks. The official form site answered "too many requests" when we tried on 3 November 2026, and the government information service's FAQ refused access. Check both points on the form itself when it opens; until then, plan one form per traveller.
What will Barbados immigration check when you land from the UK?
Only the form must be done before you fly. The table puts together what GOV.UK and the Barbados Immigration Department ask of a holidaymaker from the UK, with the departure tax you will usually have paid in your fare.

How long will the officer let you stay in Barbados?
The immigration officer decides at the desk: GOV.UK says you will be told how long you can stay when you arrive, and no official Barbados page we read gives a figure for UK nationals. Check the period you were given before you leave the arrivals hall.
Two reference works put a ceiling on it. Wikipedia's article on the visa policy of Barbados and the World Travel Guide both give six months as the maximum visa-free stay for British visitors (both read on 3 November 2026). That figure is to confirm with the Barbados Immigration Department, and it never replaces what is written in your passport.
Do not take the six months from the foreign ministry's list. In the United Kingdom row, the line "Maximum stay of six (6) mths" sits in the column for Barbadians travelling to the UK, not for British visitors to Barbados.
Overstaying is illegal, and GOV.UK warns that the authorities can fine or detain you for it. If your booked stay is longer than the period granted, say so to the officer straight away, with your return ticket in hand.
How long must a UK passport be valid for Barbados?
For the planned length of your stay, with no extra months required: both GOV.UK and the Immigration Department's visitor page word it that way. Websites asking for six months of validity are stricter than either government.

Saturday 13 February 2027 | 10 February 2027 | Renew before you go |
Leave yourself a margin anyway, because a cancelled flight home can push your stay past a date that looked safe. GOV.UK also says you will be denied entry without a valid travel document or with a passport reported lost or stolen, and asks you to check with your travel provider that your documents meet the rules.
Dual nationals entering on another passport still need a valid British passport, or a certificate of entitlement, to come back into the UK.
Can you enter Barbados on a one-way ticket?
No, not safely. GOV.UK says visitors must be able to show an onward or return ticket to enter, and the Immigration Department lists a return ticket to your country of residence among its visitor requirements, which is narrower.
- Island-hopping
An onward flight to another island meets GOV.UK's wording but not the department's. Ask the High Commission before you buy a one-way fare to Bridgetown. - Your address on the island
The department lists your intended address. A hotel confirmation does it; for a private stay, carry your host's full address in writing. - Evidence of personal support
The department does not define it. We read it as showing you can pay for your stay; that reading is ours, not an official list of documents.
What letter does a child need to fly to Barbados without a parent?
A consent letter signed by a notary public, with the notary's seal, whenever a child under 18 travels alone or with an adult who is not a parent or legal guardian. The Immigration Department is precise about it, and a letter signed at home does not meet its wording.
- Travelling alone
Written consent from a parent or legal guardian, notarised and sealed, stating the length of stay and naming the adult who will meet the child on arrival, with that person's contact details. A guardian must hold official proof of guardianship. - With grandparents, an aunt or friends
A notarised and sealed letter of consent from a parent, stating the length of stay and naming the accompanying adult with address and telephone number, plus the adult meeting the child if that is someone else. - In both cases
Travel with the original and a copy, as the department asks.
A child with a parent or legal guardian has no extra letter listed. Book the notary early: it is the step that delays family holidays planned at short notice.
What is the Barbados departure tax in pounds?
About £73 a person, or US$97.50, when you fly home to the UK, and GOV.UK says most airlines include it in the ticket price. It applies to passengers aged 2 and over, and it is lower on a flight to another Caribbean island.
- Leaving for outside the Caribbean, such as the UKBase taxUS$27.50 (about £20)Additional chargeUS$70 (about £52)TotalUS$97.50 (about £73)
- Leaving for another Caribbean destinationBase taxUS$27.50 (about £20)Additional chargeUS$20 (about £15)TotalUS$47.50 (about £35)
Passenger aged 2 or over | Base tax | Additional charge | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
Leaving for outside the Caribbean, such as the UK | US$27.50 (about £20) | US$70 (about £52) | US$97.50 (about £73) |
Leaving for another Caribbean destination | US$27.50 (about £20) | US$20 (about £15) | US$47.50 (about £35) |
GOV.UK gives the base tax as 55 Barbados dollars, equal to US$27.50. Ask your airline or tour operator whether it is in your fare, and do not assume so on a separate inter-island ticket.
How do you extend a stay or work legally in Barbados?
You apply to the Immigration Department's headquarters with Form B and pay when you apply: its extensions of stay page lists a $100.00 application fee without saying which dollar, so confirm the currency with the department before you go.
- Documents
A ticket valid for the stay you are asking for, a valid passport and a copy of its bio-data page, one photo, originals and photocopies. - Your reason
Any document supporting the request; the department's own example is a doctor's letter. - Timing
GOV.UK says extensions must be applied for and paid for through the department. Apply before the date in your passport, not after it.
Working is another matter. GOV.UK says working without a work permit is illegal. Remote workers have their own route, the Barbados Welcome Stamp, which Visit Barbados describes as a visa for a maximum of 12 months, for people earning at least US$50,000 a year (about £37,300). None of this concerns a holiday.
What can you bring into Barbados, and what must you declare?
Declare first: GOV.UK says you must declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty. The tourism authority's customs guidance gives the practical limits, as a general guide rather than a full legal list.
- Illegal drugs and pornography: Prohibited articles, seized, with penalties and prosecution possible.
- Undeclared fruit, plants or seeds: All fruit, vegetables, plants, cuttings, seeds and unprocessed plant products must be declared and shown to a Plant Quarantine Officer.
- Drink above the allowance: 1 litre of spirits or wine comes in duty free; anything above it is taxed.
Clothing, cosmetics and the personal effects you would reasonably need on holiday count as baggage. Customs issues a receipt for every article it detains.
What does the FCDO warn British visitors about in Barbados?
The FCDO does not advise against travel to any part of Barbados: its warnings page, updated 23 January 2026 and still current on 3 November 2026, carries no such advice, only the reminder that no travel can be guaranteed safe. Its most recent change removed information about flight disruptions.

Three more warnings sit on the entry requirements page: overstaying can get you fined or detained, working without a work permit is illegal, and a passport reported lost or stolen means refusal. The safety and security page gives the detail of each line, including the precautions against crime.
Which vaccines and certificates matter for Barbados?
Only a yellow fever certificate can be required, and only if you arrive from a country with a risk of transmission: TravelHealthPro applies it from age 1, reports no yellow fever risk in Barbados itself, and exempts arrivals from Guyana and the island of Trinidad unless an outbreak is occurring. A direct flight from the UK needs none.
- Vaccines
TravelHealthPro advises tetanus for most travellers, and chikungunya, dengue, hepatitis A and rabies (bat lyssavirus) for some. The GOV.UK health page suggests checking at least 8 weeks before you go. - Mosquito-borne illness
GOV.UK names Zika, dengue and chikungunya. TravelHealthPro also carries a notice on Oropouche virus disease, updated on 15 August 2025. - Medical care
GOV.UK says the healthcare system is not as extensive as the UK's, that treatment can be expensive and that serious cases at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital may need emergency evacuation. GOV.UK also asks you to check private clinics' prepayment policies before treatment. - Emergency numbers
Ambulance 511, fire 311, police 211. The FCDO in London answers on 020 7008 5000, 24 hours a day.
Before you go, GOV.UK asks you to check that Barbados can provide the healthcare you may need, which matters most with a health condition or during pregnancy. For prescribed medicines, whose legal status can differ abroad, it points to TravelHealthPro's advice on travelling with them.
Which other trips come with their own entry paperwork?
Other trips from the UK follow rules of their own: in Mexico, the FMM immigration form now concerns only travellers who arrive by land, and in the Maldives, a 30-day visa is granted on arrival, with the free IMUGA traveller declaration to complete within 96 hours before your flight lands. Every destination we cover is listed in our entry requirements guides.
Barbados visa from the UK: your questions answered
No, not for a holiday on a full British citizen passport. GOV.UK says so, and the Barbados foreign ministry’s visa list revised on 9 May 2025 shows “No Visa required” for the United Kingdom. You still complete the online immigration and customs form before you land.
Neither GOV.UK nor the Barbados Immigration Department mentions a fee, and both point to travelform.gov.bb. Private websites that charge to submit it for you are not the government form.
Not before 72 hours ahead of your arrival: the Immigration Department says the form becomes available 72 hours prior to arrival. The receipts are emailed to you when you submit.
Print the two receipts as well. The Immigration Department accepts them saved to your mobile or printed, and you show them to Immigration and to Customs on arrival.
Maybe, but the officer decides. GOV.UK says you are told how long you can stay on arrival. Wikipedia and the World Travel Guide give six months as the maximum (read on 3 November 2026), a figure to confirm with the Immigration Department.
No. GOV.UK and the Immigration Department ask for a passport valid for the planned length of your stay. A margin of a few weeks still protects you if your flight home is delayed.
Expect problems. GOV.UK says you must be able to show an onward or return ticket to enter, and the Immigration Department asks for a return ticket to your country of residence.
Usually: GOV.UK says most airlines include it in the ticket price. Flying back to the UK, it comes to US$97.50 (about £73) a person aged 2 or over.
No. The FCDO’s travel advice for Barbados, updated 23 January 2026, advises against travel to no part of the island. It does warn about violent crime, strong currents and the hurricane season from June to November.
No. GOV.UK says it is illegal for anyone, children included, to wear camouflage clothing, and the tourism authority adds items made of camouflage material. Leave those shorts and bags at home.
