Our review on Wise driving car insurance policy

Wise Driving Insurance focuses on providing the best premiums to young and new drivers allowing them to narrow down their service to provide exactly what this target market needs.

They use a telematics systems that is used to record acceleration, braking, speed and cornering, analyse the records, and create accurate reports about the driver’s driving skills as well as recommendations on how to improve. You can either choose to have the black box or the mobile app policy. Aside from analysing your driving skills, their black box has a cool feature that can be used to track your car in case of theft.

In addition to the generous discounts rates you can get as a new customer, you also get to build your NCB by maintaining a good driving record. We would recommend Wise Driving any young or new drivers looking to get a fairly priced insurance cover for their vehicle.

Wise driving black-box insurance

Wise Driving offers 2 types of telematics insurance cover: Black Box or Mobile App.

How Wise Driving Black Box works:

  • You set up a time and place to have an engineer install the box in your car
  • The black box will analyze your driving skills based on your speed, acceleration, braking and cornering. You’ll be receiving a driving score out of 100 and feedback on how to improve
  • Wise Driving tailors your policy premium based on your total driving score.

How WiseDriving App Works:

  • Once you purchase the WiseDriving App Policy, the company will send you a WiseDriving device over the next few days
  • You will be instructed to install the deive in your vehicle’s 12v socket
  • Next step is to download the WiseDriving App into your mobile phone and set it up
  • You’ll be required to tether your phone to the WiseDriving App whenever you drive.

Both the Black Box and Mobile App do the same thing. Only difference is, the app has to be downloaded to your phone which is then tethered to a device in your car and it automatically records your driving skills while driving whereas with the Black Box, you don’t need to connect your phone or install the app.

Only the Black Box as an anti-theft tracking device.

How to cancel your car insurance at Wise driving?

You can always cancel your car insurance policy at any time. However, some fees may apply especially if you cancel it after the 14 cooling-off period after your contract's anniversary date.

Since car insurance is a legal requirement, Wise driving as well as other insurers will renew your policy automatically at the end of the policy period without any notification from your side. However, Wise driving has the obligation to send you a renewal notice within 7 to 21 days before your contract comes to an end. You will therefore have 14 days - the cooling off period - to cancel your policy at reduced cancellation fees.

For the same reason, if you cancel your car insurance policy, you must sign up to a new one immediately. Find out more on car insurance legal requirement.

You would need to have various documents ready such as:

  • your policy number (right hand corner of your documents);
  • your bank details; and
  • your payment method in case there are cancellation fees.

Watch out!

Wise driving could also refuse to cover your car any longer if you don't pay for your premiums within the time allocated, or if they find out that you omitted important information that was required by the company such as your driving experience or you if have committed a fraud of any kind. This act is known as ‘fronting’.
