Privilege is a subsidiary of the Direct Line Insurance Group, which also owns Churchill and Direct Line insurance companies. The target customer base of this insurance company are people that buy insurance policies based on comparison and prices seen online. Privilege offers three levels of cover third party, fire and theft comprehensive and comprehensive plus covers and with all of them, there are standard benefits like uninsured driver promise, personal accident cover and a courtesy car. The bad side of this insurance company is that there are no adequate communication means to reach the customer care agents.
In addition to typical car insurance coverage choices, Privilege offers, among other options:
Breakdown cover
Privilege partners with Green Flag for the breakdown cover which is available with five different covers which are:
- roadside assistance: roadside repair and alternative source of transportation for up to 10 miles
- home assistance: repair is provided in the case that the car breaks down at home
- national recovery: roadside repair is provided in the case that you get stranded en-route, transportation is also offered
- onward travel: £100 is provided to cover alternative modes of transportation for both the passengers and the driver, a temporary car with a maximum car engine of 1.6 litres is provided, also overnight accommodation worth - £150 per person (or £900 in total) is provided for the driver and passengers
- european breakdown: breakdown is provided in the case that it happens outside the UK.
The following services are offered with all five covers:
- nationwide roadside assistance
- cover for anyone driving your car during the breakdown.
Windscreen cover
The windscreen cover covers the following:
- the cost of replacing or repairing broken glass in the windscreen, sunroof or windows of your car
- the cost of repairing any damage done to the body of the car as a result of the broken glass
- with Privilege, if an approved repairer is used, the insurance policy would cover all expenses taking into the consideration the market value
- if a different repairer is chosen, £40 would be provided to cover the charges
- if a different supplier is chosen for the replacement of the glass, £125 would be provided to cover the charges.
Claim on windscreen, window or sunroof doesn't affect NCB.
Motor legal protection
Privilege's Motor Legal Protection policy provides:
- legal assistance in the case of an accident that was not the driver fault
- the sum of £100,000 in the event of a claim for an accident as long as there’s more than a 50% chance that the claim will be successful
- cover for the legal costs incurred as a result of the accident.
Personal injury policy
The Personal policy cover that Privilege offers is:
- only available with the Comprehensive cover and the Comprehensive Plus cover
- for the comprehensive cover, a sum of £5,000 is offered
- for the comprehensive plus cover, a sum of £10,000 is offered.
