When should I claim on my Petplan Insurance?

Before claiming on Petplan, you should always check what situations are covered by your pet insurance plan. Pet insurance claims concern in most cases vet fees, but not only. Death by accident or illness can also be included in some pet insurance deals, for which claims can be made. What are the situations in which I can claim on Petplan?

Pet Plan has defined 7 cases in which you may want to submit a claim through the form:

  • Claim for vet fees
  • When your pet dies
  • When your pet is lost or strayed

  • Claim for holiday cancellation
  • Pet Travel Insurance
  • In case of a personal accident

For each of this cases, Petplan pet insurance has defined a dedicated claim process to follow on its online portal.

How can I get sure my Pet Plan insurance covers me before vet treatment?

For your peace of mind, you might want to check what conditions and amount are to be covered in your Petplan insurance before you go to the vet. In that case, it is better that you contact the Petplan claims service team at the following number: 0330 102 6735

However, you have to bear in mind that it is impossible to confirm 100% beforehand what will be covered or not.

How to claim on Petplan?

The are several steps to be taken to claim on your John Lewis pet insurance :

  • Gathering up vet's bills and pet's medical notes
  • Fill in the form (using the Petplan insurance form that you will find above)
  • Your vet will be contacted to confirm the details of the treatment your report on the form
  • Attach to the Petplan claim form any other relevant evidence that could justify the reimbursement claimed

Claim on Petplan by phone

Petplan provides guidance to its customers on how to make a claim by phone, at the following Customer Service Centre number : 0333 305 4911.

Claim through the Petplan website

Petplan proposes to its policyholders to submit their claims online, through the customer online interface dedicated.

You should as well provide your insurer an invoice / receipt of the treatment for which claim for.

What is the deadline for submitting my claim form to Petplan?

Pet Plan considers that you have up to a year to submit your claim from the beginning of your pet's injury or illness. Petplan will consider that this 12-months period starts with the beginning of the treatment received by your pet.

Do Pet Plan cover boarding costs if I am hospitalized for Covid-19?

Yes, absolutely. You can claim for your pet boarding fees to Petplan if ever you need to be hospitalized after you get infected by the Covid-19 virus. In that case, Pet Plan will pay a licensed boarding establishment for your pet, or reimburse a £15 daily sum for someone looking after your flurry friend on your behalf.

When will I get my Petplan claim money ?

Petplan says in its website that almost 90% are followed by a reimbursement in the 5 working days following after the reception of your Petplan claim form.

Can Petplan pay my vet directly?

Yes, it is possible for Petplan to pay directly the vet if you prefer that option. However, you have to check with your vet that he agrees with that. Your vet can even submit the claim for you through their system. Otherwise, if you claim through the Pet Plan claim form, you just have to select the corresponding option.

What to do if my claim is rejected?

If your claim is rejected, you can always contact the Financial Ombudsman Service (0300 123 9123). You have to take action within a 6 months period - starting the date you received a negative answer for your claim.
